The African Heritage Cultural Arts Center (AHCAC) presents its sixth annual Sankofa Jazz Fest on Saturday, April 4, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event celebrates jazz and welcomes the AHCAC’s alumni and the greater community to reconnect on the historic grounds of Liberty City’s AHCAC, 6161 NW 22nd Avenue, Miami, at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Moonlight Way. The event is open to the public with free general admission.
The 2020 “Sankofa Jazz Fest” lineup includes:
• Chris Walker – Al Jarreau’s former Musical Director, co-vocalist and bassist for more than twenty years. First release First Time produced two top five singles; which crossed over to become top 30 on the pop charts. His second release included the classic song, “How Do You Heal A Broken Heart,” and has received over 60 million views on YouTube. His performance will include an Al Jarreau tribute. ...

• Negroni's Trio– Three-time Latin GRAMMY®-nominated group NEGRONI’s TRiO is comprised of a “father and son team”, Jose Negroni, on piano and keyboards, Nomar Negroni, on drums and percussions, and numerous virtuoso bassists. Since 2002, worked to form an ensemble of master musicians who create their own unique voice in traditionally known jazz classics, Latin jazz and jazz fusion.
• Jesse Jones, Jr. - A phenomenal reed player, Jesse is technically superior on the Alto, soprano and baritone saxophone, as well as flute. He combines the hard-bop influence of Cannonball Adderley, the funk of Hank Crawford, and the sweetness of Paul Desmont. Performance credits include Donald Byrd, Blue Mitchell, Dextor Gordon, Joe Williams, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Eartha Kitt, Clark Terry, Ira Sullivan, and the late Melton Mustafa.
• Nikki Kidd- An International Jazz artist.
“Sankofa Jazz Fest is a celebration with engaging performances that showcase incredibly talented and authentic jazz musicians,” explained Marshall Davis, AHCAC Managing Director. The event will be a celebration and family-friendly affair. Festival goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. VIP tickets are available for purchase for $45 and reserved seating is also available $10 each. Food will be available for purchase from a variety of vendors. No outside food, beverages or coolers allowed.
